What is "Book
It" all about?
Simple
-
The BOOK IT!® Program starts October
1, 2007, and ends March 31, 2008.
-
You set monthly reading
goals for each child in the class.
-
As soon as a monthly
reading goal has been met, you present the child with a pizza award
certificate.
-
The child takes the certificate
to a Pizza Hut® restaurant, where he or she is congratulated by the
manager or service team and given a free,
one-topping Personal Pan Pizza®. On the first visit, the
child also receives recognition of their accomplishment and a surprise
gift. There is no purchase necessary and the pizza can be taken to
go.
-
On each subsequent visit,
the child is again congratulated and given another Personal Pan Pizza
and a sticker to recognize reading achievement.
-
If the child meets the
reading goals all six months of the program, he or she is rewarded
at the restaurant with a BOOK IT! All-Star
Reader medallion.
Flexible…
-
Setting reading
goals. All children can benefit from participating in the
BOOK IT! Program because of the flexibility insetting the reading
goals. The goal can be number of minutes read, number of pages read,
number of books read, etc. The goal can also vary from month to month.
For students who are not yet reading or who have difficulty reading,
you can set goals in which parents or others read to or with them.
Click here for tips and creative approaches on how
to set reading goals.
-
Involving
parents. You
can use BOOK IT! to support reading done in the classroom or at home.
You will find a letter in this guide that explains how the program
works, which you can copy and send home with each child. The verification
forms are also a great way to involve parents
and encourage children to read at home. Even if support from parents
and/or caregivers is limited, children can still boost their reading
skills by participating in BOOK IT!
-
Rewarding
and celebrating. As
soon as a child meets the monthly reading goal, you should give him
or her a pizza award certificate. This immediate positive reinforcement
for achievement is an integral part of the BOOK IT! Program. It motivates
the child who met the goal and the other children in the classroom
as well! How you present the certificate is also important. Be creative—a
round of applause or a cheer from classmates—and have fun celebrating
the accomplishment.
Pizza
Award Certificate Rules
-
Keep it
special. A child can earn only one pizza
award certificate per month from October through March.
-
Every child deserves a personal
"Congratulations!" For this reason, group redemptions and/or
parties with the monthly certificates are strictly prohibited.
-
Free pizza means we need a little
information. Be sure
to fill out your section on the back of each certificate.
-
Don’t hold the applause! Present
the certificate as soon as the goal is met—certificates expire one
month from the date issued, and the final certificate expires May 1,
2008
-
Pizza Hut is proud to support
BOOK IT! Certificates
can be redeemed anytime during normal business hours at any participating
restaurant.
-
BOOK IT! really is free.
There is no purchase required and the
pizza can be taken to go.
-
Out with the old and in with
the new. Destroy
any leftover certificates, as they will not be valid the following
year.
